‘the smell of no one fighting’

Abraham Hicks says
” Everything you want,
You want because you think you’ll feel better
In the having of it, but you can feel good now.”

Maybe this doesn’t make sense
Because we’re so used to
Getting what we already have
And feeling what we’ve already felt

Maybe that’s why a grilled cheese sandwich
Always tastes like rainy Saturday mornings
And why dryer sheets
Smell like reassurance

Maybe it’s why birthday candles
Always smell like no one is fighting
And why a belt
Can sometimes sound like danger

Maybe it’s why we look for the kind of love
We already recognise
And why pain
sometimes feels like home

But maybe there exists
Beyond what is known to me
Feelings that I don’t know yet
Things I can’t imagine

Like what Elote smells l ike in Mexico City
Or how it feels in my belly to skydive
Or how the air will taste in a bakery in Paris
Or what it sounds like when your future wife says your name for the first time

Maybe Abraham Hicks was right,
Either way, worth a try.
