‘river’s edge’

I used to dream beyond my boundaries
Because I didn’t know where they laid
Empowered in my ignorance,
Barreling headfirst into the fray

But gradually, I found them
And I set them too, each day
Like how a flood becomes a river
When it can no longer flow sideways

I mapped out what I could do
And what to tolerate
It means I’ve left some things behind
And found things for which I wait

For if I had never tried
To ever find my edges
My world would be still be blurry
And my promises only guesses
