‘love my memory instead’

Let me linger in the dusk of your dreams
Before your dawn takes you away

Wake up a little disappointed
that my scent was imagined
And my voice rings in your ears
like distant bells in an unseen chapel

Let me slip like sand through your fingers
Building castles that sweep out with the tide

Like plans to reach the stars,
made and forgotten in a bottle of gin,
gone by morning

Enshrine the ghost of me,
and let me shed that shell
As it lives on frozen, immortal,
unattainable as a glacier’s heart

Let this figment of me blur the lines
between memory and recollection
until they become one, and you
remember someone who does not exist.

Then, I will be truly gone.
